Default v70 electrical issue

turn the ignition key to position 2 [dash lights all on- but dont turn to start], theres a loud relay clicking noise seems to be coming from the side of the auto gearstick. start the car [turns over and fires up straight away] and rev counter stops working, gear selector display goes blank, fuel consumption goes blank. switch off, wait a few seconds, then restart, again just one or two relay click noises, but rev counter and gear selector display now back on?? firstly is there any relays down by the gear selector in the centre console? secondly id of thought "volt drop", but to what, as engine cranks fine, always has done. or is something very "finite" on voltage and maybe time for another main battery. i did replace it about 3 years ago, but do appreciate modern batteries dont last like they used to. and guidance greatly appreciated as always.

You don't state what year of car, but if it was one of the V70s that is appropriate to this section, then that's the classic symptoms of a fault in the electrical part of the ignition switch - quite a common problem on these, but quite easy to change. It may be the same on your model?

OK, but as it happens I should imagine that the ignition key arrangement is much the same, so my comment stands. Hope that helps!
