There's no specific antenna for the tailgate. Cars today are built on a computer network, where information is shared to the devices that need it.

The remote control communicates all its commands to the same receiver. They are then distributed to cause door unlock, courtesy light on or tailgate opening (whichever is relevant).
The antenna you are referring to is probably the keyless entry antenna at the rear. Since keyless entry has very short range, to prevent people from opening the car when you are several meters away, there are several antennas, to facilitate functionality from both sides as well as from the rear of the car.

Split the fob as if you are going to change the battery and you will see a micro switch with a circular plastic tit in the middle.

Find or rob a small washer and put it over the tit as this will then stop it being depressed when the button is pressed.
