Default Engine problem on V40

Hello All this is my 1st thread.
I am now the proud owner of my 1st Volvo
Which is a V40 1.8 se estate 2001 model
Lovely car to drive but have an issue with
The engine the problem is that when I put my
Foot down the engine seems like it's misfiring/flat spot
Lack of power and won't go over 70.
If I am gentle with the throttle it's not so bad
Has anyone had this issue before and could help
Me please it would be much appreciated.

Regards
Woody17
