Volvo 164 just finished on ebay
That lovely tax-exempt 1972 164 wearing 164TE blue/green paint failed to reach its reserve - final bid of £2250 didn't get there. From seeing the pics it looks very nice but I wonder what the reserve was - any ideas?
Bearing in mind it was a one-owner car with very low mileage, currently legal and looking lovely inside, how does one value such a car? A decade ago such a car might have made nearly £3k in the UK, but at this time of year in our depressed financial market, I don't think so. However, I heard that 164s are sought-after in some European countries due tax concessions and that they can be fitted for LPG fuel. Despite me having enough 164s, if I had that sort of money I would have been very tempted: perhaps just as well I don't! Paul |

164
I had a 164 once. All the children on the estate thought it was a Rolls Royce
Gave it away for sheer buttons. |

Yep - know what you mean. A few years ago I went to see a 164 in Havant, Hampshire, which was soon to be available. It was very shabby but in daily use: the owner said I could have it when the tax expired, so come back later!
I went back just before the expiry of its tax, to be told he had just given it to some local boys who wanted a big old car for that weekends demolition derby. Pity as it had a personalised plate with my daughters name, and she being vain would have loved that.... Paul |
