I was on the sofa in the lounge when I took the pics. It's a 4 seater with low profile armrests and can take the pressure of being revved to 4000rpm and a little beyond as I'm running a dry sump on it these days (hence the low oil pressure). You're right about the cold temp though - this is a worry but I'm far too tight to put the heating on these days so we'll just have to see how it goes.

Variable speed or ratio pumps aside - idle oil pressure always tells you plenty about oil temp. there will be a significant difference between hot and cold. |

Suppose I could write a quick phone app talking to my OBDC dongle that tells me my oil temp has just passed a certain point. I've coded OBDC stuff before on a raspberry pi - it's pretty simple. Back in the 80s when electronic rev limiters first appeared I bought two - one as a general rev limiter and another which was set much lower but was powered off a relay that switch the power out to the lower limiter when oil temp passed about 65c. I was running a high capacity oil pump and it would wreck havoc with cold oil if I got a bit impatient - the spirit of youth I guess! |

PS they haven't got "all angles covered" - they allow you to thrash a cold engine - why? Easily prevented with a simple bit of programming. There lot's of crappy programming out there - I won't mention the crap media browsing - or the fact that the car beeps at me about the front sensors being too close to an object when I'm in reverse! (but not rolling forward) Or the fact I can set a speed limit and then when going down hill it'll let the car over-speed - why not ramp up regenerative braking to at least attempt to hold the car at the limit? How easy is it to turn off important systems from a badly read swipe? They haven't got hardly any angles covered. The software is mostly poorly executed.

There were a few ( not all ) early VEA engines 2015 - 2016 which had carbon build up behind the oil control rings , a few engines had new modified pistons. This did not cause catastrophic Engine failures ,, what is your experience with catastrophic engine failures??? No the oil pressure will remain constant that's the point of the variable capacity oil pump ... pumps more when hot and less when cold depending on load , rpm and oil temperature ..

I have a V60 2014 D4 VEA, that is consuming some oil. 0,5 liters per 2500 km at least. Some people is complaining about the dipstick, some about the engine rings, but is quite strange from my understanding. My technician says that this consumption is not normal, and now we are looking for a removal of the total oil from the sump and check if the total quantity it there or not. Do you think that can be this issue with the pistons? Many thanks, |

Found this on the internet for you. I’d imagine there’s lots more info out there. Also you can ask the question in the appropriate dedicated model forum for your vehicle, which owners of similar models frequent.
