Ordered a new number plate for my trailer when I changed the car two years ago.
£12 I think online, no questions asked whatsoever. Arrived in a couple of days.

Only when cloning becomes an epidemic and revenue starts to become affected, will authorities take notice. There are many tales (particularly relating to the London congestion charge) of false identity and the battles some unfortunate owners have had even when the vehicle is obviously a different model and colour. "but the camera doesnt lie, pay up".
I noticed in Norway this week that speed cameras are all forward facing as it appears that the drivers identity must be proven to enact a successful conviction. Unlike here, where, by overturning centuries of legal precedent, you are legally bound to admit guilt. Could you ever see the American '5th amendment' being overturned in similar circumstances?

I doubt it , in similar circumstances an un taxed and un insured vehicle has been driving around Bristol for a year where there are lots of Number plate cameras . most petrol stations have them too , but if you know where they are you can avoid them I suppose if you just drive around locally .

... but if you blank your plate, buyers think you have something to hide in your car's history. On balance, I always leave it, and have been okay so far.

Just luck I think, if you have the same car that some scrote is using for illegal purposes then you're a potential victim but if not then you're fine but it's impossible to call... removing the plates is not biggie, genuine buyers can call, have a chat and as a seller you're get a feel if it seems legit or not and then provide the details on request. Plus it saves the forums idiots rushing off to do an MOT check and pointing out it had an advisory in 2005 for a brake imbalance.

I listed my S60 for sale on here a few weeks ago and also Gumtree as I have recently bought another car.
I have had plenty of timewasters via gumtree in contact but nobody as yet has viewed the car.
Today I received a penalty charge for driving in a bus lane and also a speeding fine from a police force that's a good 3 hours from where I live, indeed a part of the country I have never been to in my life.

I have had to talk to my local police for an incident number as it appears my car has been cloned.
The photo on the bus lane camera shows the car as same colour and reg as mine.

If it helps anyone please blank out your reg when posting pics of your car to save the hassle I now have to deal with.

Regards, Craig.
HE HE happened to me in Glasgow at ONE AM driving in a BUS ONLY STREET the local cooncil sent me a fixed penalty fine I think it was £60.00 from memory

I demanded pictures since I was 4,000 miles away ......well you get the idea it wisnayme!!!

On receipt of the pictures it was obviously not my car rear lights were in a totally different configuration so I took some pics of my car with the lights on at around midnight in as many lighting configurations as possible and hand-delivered the letter as the guy who sent me the letter was like the scarlet pimpernel and was never available to meet me so I took a sneaky pic of me delivering it to their receptionist as they would not give me a receipt about SIX WEEKS later the fine was annulled

Tis too easy to clone a car now since there is no tax disc needed now..so once you tax MOT and insure your car the clone is free to travel the roads without getting a YABA DABBA DO message when they pass a police car with the VED number plate check facility active. I imagine that this is going on a lot now.

YES I want to go look at MOT history so IF you blank your number I will just have to contact you for that info.

I would imagine your local supermarket or railway station park and ride car park would be the best place to look for a car to clone...criminal mind at work here :-)

Thankfully the bus lane fine has been quoshed, still waiting on the police to decide on the speeding issue.

I'm guessing that if they accept my appeal then that would happen automatically? Either I have committed a crime or someone else has committed 2 so hopefully this is what will happen.

I contacted DVLA also, they offered to change my registration number but I politely declined their offer, as I'm selling the car I don't want the expense of buying new plates and changing details with my insurance company.
