Ack.

My wife's 2014 V70 D4 has the check engine light on and my OBD reader is giving the P04D9 code.

Guess she'll have to phone the dealer and ask what they'll do about it (probably take credit card details before they'll even talk about it I'd imagine).

Anyone able to tell from these photos if it's had any fix(es)? Thanks.

Hi all,

Took my D4 FWD XC60 in for its third service, and while chatting with the service guy asked about the VEA EGR/cooler fix post warranty expiry. Shocked to hear that now Volvo will only cover, if a couple of months beyond 3 years, then we (the customer) have to pay! He suggested £800 ish. Really disappointed as mine does not have the fix. 1,821 replies tells me the issue is still ongoing. Appalling customer service if this turns out to be true! Incidentally had the wife’s D2 2.0 V40 fixed after 18 months on a 16 plate. Anyone else been told different?

My EGR valve failed in the summer. Volvo thankfully sorted it out for me in the end but the estimated cost for the job, including diagnostic and fitting the new 'modification' was nearer £1300 !!
Exchange EGR valve is £410, exchange cooler is £360, hose kit about £60 plus a few odds and ends plus a couple of hours labour plus VAT.

Evenings Chaps / Chapesses,

I've had a good trawl through and I can't see an answer so my apologies if I've missed it.

I've just bought a 67 plate V60 D4 190. Registered New October 2017. What are the odds a car of this age will have the 'new' EGR / Cooler set up or am I waiting for a failure in the future?

Cheers

Ali

you should have the fix from the factory ( top radiator hose with no big T piece half way along ) You could get a lambda sensor or exhaust pressure sensor sooted up at some point but that is minor in comparison and should be a free fix .

Much appreciated!

My driving regime isn't the best for a Derv (Work is 13 miles mixed short dual carriageway then little bit of town and then just the odd slightly longer drive) but finding an equivalent in a powerful enough petrol just wasn't happening!

My miles are fairly reasonable so the plan at the moment is V-Power to try keep her burning clean..

To conclude this one, they said it was fixed with a software fix.

Light came back on and it's come back today with a sheet of paper saying EGR cooler replaced.

In case it helps anyone else understand what to look for, this bit (shown before the fix) seems to be a straight through pipe now.

I have been watching for any sign of the engine light with my D4 appear after seeing it was a weak point. It did last week, the day after it was serviced at the stealers!
I noticed the diagnostic completed on the service showed a problem with the EGR- but they ignored it.
Thankfully I had a selekt warranty with 8 days to run.......so all replaced FOC, uprated? EGR and cooler.
Maybe we should all ask for the diagnostic printout, it then gives you an arguing point as mine defo says it was an issue (but err still working at the time of service)

Has anyone had the replaced and supposed 'upgraded' egr fail yet ?

Default Mine too!

2016 model
32,000 miles

Most of the time mine travels 60-70 mph on A roads - does this explain the relatively high mileage before the fault occurred?

On the phone the dealer couldn't say for definite that it was EGR related - fair enough; so we'll see next week.

I asked about the chance of it going into limp mode and he said not unless I really floored it (no chance of that as I'm a sophisticated Volvo driver....)
