XC90 Transmission Goes at 60,000 miles
We bought a 2003 XC90 from the factory in Sweden and shipped it home to America. The Warranty ran out in March 2007. Conveniently - now, the Transmission is slipping and Volvo said we need a completely new transmission.
We have had it in for every service and kept it in pristine condition. Has anyone experienced this problem? I want to know if it is something that should be a part of a recall or what? It appears what caused it was the EPC module celanoid (not sure of spelling) failing which ultimately has caused the transmission to go bad. Anyone out there with any similar problems? Wendy |

Have you tried getting a second opinion at a specialist Auto repair shop? The Volvo main dealers in the UK arn't always the best place for in depth knowledge of autoboxes and you can often get better advice at a specialists.
If you get the Volvo main dealer to fix it Volvo may contribute as the box has failed early. Mercedes did on an E-Class autobox I had fail a 90,000 miles. I have heard others have had a contributions from Volvo in such an event as well. All the best. Roy

I know. No harm in a second opinion. The US should have some expert autobox workshops given that's the norm in the USA.

I assumed it was the autobox but now I wondering if it's the Haldax AWD that has a problem? Either way I'd expect Volvo to pick up most of the cost.

Volvo comes through we hope
Thanks for your suggestions/comments. Volvo did contact us and agreed to replace the transmission. Unfortunately, we have been without our vehicle for over 3 weeks now. We took it to another transmission company who found the problem and then, we have to pay $700+ for what they did and for the re-stocking fees for the parts they ordered. Then, the transmission that was suppose to come into our Volvo Dealer didn't come in - so we wait....
