Default XC90 - boot release / opening

In my manaul on page 119 / 120 it says the boot can be released by 2 presses on the remote button. "The tailgate is unlocked, and the lock plunger is disengaged at which point the tailgate is opened a few centremetres".

When I do this the boot unlocks on the first press and then nothing happens.

What exactly should happen on 2 presses? What do yours do?

Thanks in advance

It unlocks the tailgate to allow you to open it without unlocking the doors. I don't know anything about is opening a few centimetres. I have to actually operate the release on the tailgate to allow the upper section to lift.

Old thread re-ignited

I have exactly the same issue as the 2010 OP.

Hopefully, now that we are 8 years in, there are more of us wondering about the same thing.

So, anyone got any ideas?

"The tailgate can be opened in two
different ways
One press – The tailgate is unlocked but
remains closed. Disengage the lock with the
outside handle and open the tailgate.
If the tailgate is not opened within 2 minutes
then it is relocked and the alarm is re-armed.
Two presses – The tailgate is unlocked and
the lock plunger is disengaged, at which point
the tailgate is opened a few centimetres. Lift
the outside handle in order to open the tailgate.
Rain, cold, frost or snow could prevent the tailgate
from disengaging from the lock plunger.
NOTE
• When the boot lid/tailgate is unlocked
with 2 presses, automatic relocking
does not take place because the boot
lid/tailgate is open - it must be closed
manually.
• After the boot lid/tailgate has been
closed it is unlocked and the alarm is
not armed - relock it and re-arm the
alarm with the remote control key's
LOCK button
."

Cheers

Doesn't work on my 2010 Exec.

Not sure what it means by "lift the outside handle", but if it refers to the usual location for opening the boot, then I don't see any advantage in the double-press.

Well JL, one press of the tailgate button (or a press of the "Unlock" button) and my tailgate unlocks but a second press doesn't seem to have any effect.

"Two presses – The tailgate is unlocked and
the lock plunger is disengaged, at which point
the tailgate is opened a few centimetres.
"

This just doesn't happen - WHY??

Should have said - 2011 D5 Exec

Cheers

I have a MY2009

The separate boot unlock button just unlocks the boot.
It doesn't release the mechanism, that is a manual step

I am wondering if the early manuals were misprinted, or if they removed the electric boot release mech for newer cars, given that the boot does not spring up anyway when released.

Hi, to be clear,

My my03 xc90 will certainly unlock the tailgate with two depressions of the button with the tailgate diagram on it. It always has to be two presses from the fully locked position and unlocks the tailgate only.

It does not allow the tailgate to lift at all, it just unlocks it. My tailgate appears far to heavy to spring open, indeed the tailgate will close if you lift a couple of inches and let go.

Sorry for any confusion on my part

John, what happens if you just press the tailgate release button once?

Cheers
