Default Trailing arm bush XC60

Need to have one (probably both) replaced but my local MOT centre says probably cheaper for Volvo to do it as they'll have correct tool for pressing.

Awaiting a call back but what sort of costs am I looking at per side

Cheers

I had this mentioned to me by Volvo Dundee a couple of years ago. They made a big deal about the investment they'd made in the tool. I think they quoted around £600 to do both sides

Interestingly Volvo Aberdeen didn't think they needed doing

Not sure what the symptoms are. I do get some creaks from the rear when going over speed humps which I think will be suspension and also some general light knocking that I'm not sure is suspension

You can get cheap versions of the tool for £50 on ebay. Even the Sealey and Laser versions are circa £200-£250.

It's easy to do on a hydraulic press as well which every garage should have...

Hi the bushing tool is available on the online auction site for less than £100 and genuine volvo bushes are available on the same site for £74 per side . You tube videos show the job taking around 1 to 1.5 hrs per side if you do it with the arms in situ.
Your mot Place can't be very good as these bushes are pretty common and are fitted to lots of vehicles that use this platform . Ford mondeo for example.

Need to take off the whole arm to do it on a bench press, just increase the cost, hence thinking Volvo might not be that much more in the long run

Did mine about 4 months ago but I fitted powerflex bushes which do away with the failure part altogether 👍

These bushes are a bit of a funny on MOT, my sisters XC70 went into the dealer for a service and they recommended new rear trailing arm bushes, which I thought were fine. The got a bit snotty with my sister when she declined the work and said it would not pass an MOT in that condition.

MOT came and went - not even an advisory.

I'd defer to any current MOT testers on here but I think bushes should only be failed if i) they're so badly cracked or coming unstuck they may fully detach or ii) there is excessive movement due to deterioration or wear.

I have seen these online, these the type that don’t need a tool to press them in? I had heard they don’t always last any longer than the genuine ones??

Just had mine done on an XC60 by an independent Volvo garage. Cost £365 inc labour and Vat using genuine Volvo parts.
