11 things
great i also do most of them.....
I do enjoy making my car very wide at those roundabouts where the LEFT lane is for LEFT and the guy in the whatever thinks he is going to beat you by slipping past only to find the volvo seems 20 feet wide |

These are quality.
I had the joy of getting to tease a little w****r (i say little I mean more his brain capacity, he was probably older than me, I'm only 19, yet he still probably hasn't realised it's not cool to have a nova) in a bogie green nova, whilst I was in my mums V70. He tried to take me at the lights, I let him get a bit ahead, then floored it and ripped past him whilst laughing profusely. Then I let him have it again twice more as he tried to firstly get close to me and secondly when he tried to overtake me. He must have felt like such a willy. I think he also had some pals in with him, expecting him to beat this "big slow volvo". God I cannot wait till I get an 850 R. |

some other goody thing s to say
"It's just run in mate" I say, they answer "new engine?" I answer "No, 154K and I can just about hear all the parts have nicely bedded in now!"
When an impatient van driver (yes it was white) bumped in to me at a roundabout in Guildford (he wanted me to let him in when I was already 1/2 way through the only gap), and I got out to "commiserate" at HIS damage- When someone cuts me up, and I DO drop back for a while, and then at the next lights serenely leave them standing by timing my arrival just right for the green having put the auto in Sport. Being extra courteous to other Volvo drivers. Continually being astonished at just what my 850 will put up with from me as I load it up with so much of my gear. And being genuinely overjoyed that even though I do not wash the bodywork very often it still looks so good and rust-free Finally, and I only discovered this feeling when I became a Volvo owner, the certainty that regularly serviced the Volvo need have no fear of the MOT, even with an ageing Volvo such as mine 94 850 GLT Auto 154K Last edited by peterelectric; Apr 8th, 2006 at 23:28. |

I think that Volvo must be one of the only brands on the road which even after 10, 15, and even 20 years still passes the MOT with no big scares.
My 760 Turbo flew through last year just after i had first bought the car. I was a little worried having only spent £400 buying it and because it is 17 yo that it would fail. Luckily it was a friend of a friend testing it on his sat morning off, so i mentioned the Stevie Wonder glasses trick, however when he came back and confirmed that it had passed and legitimately i was shocked - and chuffed all at the same time. It may be 17 yo but it has a FULL Volvo service history up to 100k miles, and been serviced with genuine parts by a specialist since then (now only 126k miles) so it really does prove that if you look after them and use the correct parts they last forever!! I can now only say after 16 months of motoring in my 760 Turbo, that it is the best car ive ever owned. Ok the suspension is a little wollowy, but ive never had a car so long that still puts a smile on my face. It is truely a joy and priviledge to own. Go on the Val-voo Tarboo (norfolk pronounciation) jono |

Hi, put the front and rear suspension anti roll bars off a post 93 940 Turbo, and you won't have wallowy suspension.

This is the funnyest thing I've read in ages. I can relate to most of the point's people have made apart from the Abba an the ace of base. I always find my self being let in by other Volvo drivers or indeed returning the favour. You can talk to other Volvo drivers like you've known them for years even if you only been admiring there car for a minute in a car park.
My mun shunted a peugeot estate in our 1985 245 in heavy traffic once at 8mph or less an it twisted the sub frame of the peugeot and wrote it off Te he he. Got shunted by an old school landrover defender, He mangled his front bumper on our tow ball only damage to Volvo 99p tow ball cap. My dad takes great joy in dusting boy racers and chavs off at the traffic lights in his 940 turbo especally if they've got there mate with them. He is aspecally good at the toodalling 30mph speed limt bit, angering his followers an then going for vanishing point on the daul carrigeway. (thats my favorite) My 240 has a wbber carb fitted to it. an my favorute pass times are hammering past 5 series B.M.W in the outside lane of the daul carrige way that ammerge out of single lane roads with a full load this is fine intill you come to a bend though. Another good one is when you do get a compliment on how good the body work is for an old car. You then reply yeah its not bad for 190,000miles. Instead of a reply they normally look straight through the window at the speedo in disbelief, you then cheekily add, it's just about run in. Finally there is the joy when the great day come's when your friend who's bin teasing you about your old volvo, Phones you to come an tow his 3or 4 year old vauxhul home. It doesn't happen as often as some of these other points but it's by far and away the most satisfying. Lol |

Would like to add one more:
Many years ago my wife owned, I think a 242 dl, we decided to go shopping in Truro, and she parked the car in a little back street that I knew. She parked the car a few feet from a junction but I thought it would be ok. When we returned to the car somebody had parked in front of it touching bumpers and was about three foot over the junction, the car behind was about a foot way from the rear bumber, traped! My wifes face was a picture she did not know what to do and we had to get back for our dog. Laughing I said give us the keys I will get it out no problems, there was a look of total disbelief on her face. Needless to say I got the car out with out a scratch, the car that was parked in front, well, I would love to have seen the guys face when he returned to his car and found it half way across the junction. Those bumbers are ideal for pushing cars out the way! |

This is a great subject, still laughing at some of the replies!!! Its true though, those greasy roundabouts are a bugger People dont know what to do do when a 740 comes round sideways....
I had a brand new Astra Estate pull out in front of me at a roundabout once, I hit it in the side with the front corner. Bent both doors, crease in the roof, drivers door jammed. His car was written off, the 740 needed a new indicator, £5 from the scrappy, sweet! |
