Default Hydraulic brake hose clamp advice please...

...going to be changing a caliper soon so need to clamp brake hose....anyone used or got opinions on this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-115...#ht_3211wt_989 or is there a trick of the trade? Was going to use mole grips but have convinced myself they will damage the hose.

Cheers

Personally i would not clamp the hose. Just take off the hose, lose a few ml of fluid and then bleed when the new caliper is fitted.

i agree with CHB, try and find a bolt with same size thread or nearly, and screw that in end of brake hose. or if there is a plastic bung in the new caliper use that. if you do use a bolt no need to tighten it right up just enough to stop the flow.

You could also put some polythene (cut an old plastic bag) on top of the brake master cylinder reservoir and screw down the filler cap onto it to minimise loss of fluid when you disconnect the pipes.

Oops!!! I didn't realise you were talking about the brake hose. I thought you meant how to compress the piston. I will have to agree with chb. When I changed mine I just lost a few ml of break fluidand that was it. Just make sure you have some kitchen towel or a cloth to clean up the brake fluid. And make sure you bleed the brakes to remove any air in them

Also VolvoFan's suggestion is a great idea too

.....if you tie a piece of string around it first then when undone tie it up so that the end is higher than the supply then it doesn`t lose much, also cover the end from dirt...
