Daily driver unless winter weather as I do not want to start replacing body panels. 300,000 plus miles and still 31 on highway. Manual and just replaced the clutch last year - burns me up that these cars did not come with a lifetime clutch. LOL

I haven't driven my 240 in about 3 weeks (marooned at home since museum closed and no luck finding a job yet), but with the 2.0 it's a nice engine, once past 3k of course. Bit gutless around town frankly, wonder how many horses have run away over the years..

Since buying the car in 2010 I've covered about 60,000 miles, and I still feel pleasure at the prospect of driving such an amazing car. 23 years old, nearly 200,000 miles, and still gliding along in warmth and comfort, and quiet enough to have a normal converation, even with rear passengers. Yes, petrol consumption isn't perhaps quite as good as modern equivalents but maintenance is relatively inexpensive and purchase price, even allowing for increasing values, at around £1,000, you can do an awful lot of miles to make up the difference with a modern car at around £30-40,000! And it's 'green' motoring too, low emissions and none of the pollution caused by the production of a new car.
I really don't find the 2ltr underpowered, even in this hilly part of the country. Yes, you need to use the gears a bit, but the old car if it's really 'driven' can show a clean pair of heels to a lot of run-of-the-mill modern ones. |

road trips with 240 safe ?
Hello all, I am new to the forum
Just bought a 244 DL6 1983 with 170,000 km on it. Was well maintained by the guy I bought it from. He collected them and did the work himself (a mechanic himself). Wanted to know if any of you ever did long trips with a 244 DL6 (200km+) and if its safe to do so. Wouldnt want to break down in the middle of nowhere. Cheers - Emmanuel |

I used a 240 wagon for many years as my daily. It was thirsty ish, but the price of fuel was a helluva lot less than the £250-£500 a month the repayments in a new car would have cost.

My 240 is running LPG since 1994. Cheap as nothing else around.
Frankly you have to be nuts as we are to drive it daily. It's reliable as much as you spend on it to keep everything working as it should and DIY. |
