Default Diff bearing question

Hi all,

How f**ked am I with this bearing? Is it gonna be OK with the shaft in its place or I did something wrong when I took out the shaft?

TARFU or FUBAR! Your choice but i'd say that bearing was toast! The inner race is able to move far more than any bearing inner race has any right to! Did you lose a lot of smaller ball bearings when it all came apart?

Something is seriously wrong though, think you need to investigate further.

The problem is between part 36-42. But i dont know what happened. Obviously I had to hammer the shaft out but it was not hard to get out.

I didn't realise it was the pinon bearing, you'll have to check the HBoF to find out the pre-load on the bearing and see if you can set it correctly and if that eliminates the play.

Haynes Book of Fantasy aka Workshop Manual. Better still, if you have access to a Volvo one, use that instead.

Which one is the crush sleeve on the pic above?

I've removed it because I'm swapping the gear ratio to 3.31.
