Default Voice controls languages

So I was wondering if more languages will ever be added to the voice control.

The English language works very well, the french too but there are a few languages missing.
Not sure if this is related to the markets where Volvo sells the most but Arabic for instance has 422 million speakers and Portuguese has 230 million speakers and you cannot find these 2 languages anywhere in the system.

Italian is in the list of the supported languages and Italy sold 15.000 Volvos last year. It's not comparable with the 5.000 Volvos sold in Portugal or Turkey (where they speak Turkish and Arabic) for example, but then you are missing markets that belongs to other countries that also speak the same language and together those numbers can be the same as the ones sold by Italy.

In fairness, there are a few languages that should be added.

It doesn't do Welsh. Which is ridiculous seeing as it is a native British language widely spoken in the Principality and beyond.

In reality I'm only being half serious. It just needs to recognise Welsh place names with their proper pronunciation, far better for the navigation system.

Hopefully they will eventually produce cars with built-in Siri, Alexa or whatever the Android version is. I’ve no idea why companies persist with their current voice generators when there are such brilliant ones available from the big hitters.

That would be for the next generation of vehicles though. Ones that will be far more connected to the Cloud than today’s Volvo’s.

Well if that's the case, then we will only have support for all these languages if we buy a new generation Volvo.
The new electric XC40 and all future 100% electric options from Volvo will run with Android Automotive and with it you have the following languages:
  • Arabic (Egypt, Saudi Arabia)
  • Bengali
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • English (Australia, Canada, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, UK, US)
  • French (Canada, France)
  • German (Austria, Germany)
  • Gujarati
  • Hindi
  • Indonesian
  • Kannada
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Malayalam
  • Marathi
  • Norwegian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Russian
  • Spanish (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru)
  • Swedish
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Thai
  • Turkish
  • Urdu
Unfortunately Welsh is not included.
Android Automotive may be also the operating system for future cars based on the SPA2 platform so in our case we need to wait and buy a new Volvo
