Default Xc90 turbo removal

Hi all,
Just invading from the P2 v70 section

Debating looking at a cheap xc90 which has an alleged fault with the turbo actuator - e4 engine.

Is the complete turbo unit a DIY proposition to remove if needed with decent tools and ability? Not seen down the back of the E4 engine with AWD gubbins.

Will a car with this fault run ok to drive home, presumably in limp mode?
Ta

If it's the 185 or 200 Bhp.it will have a electronic actuator.
Which I think you can get to without taking the turbo off. Could be wrong tho.

Default Could be gunked up turbo

Hi Check our you tube there are some good videos on the turbos including one about how to open it up and clean it out.
The lever on the turbo can get sticky with residue so the actuator can’t move it smoothly.
Not done it but seems a straight forward job and you may not need a new turbo or actuator.
If you budget for a turbo replacement then anything less is a bonus.
Good luck

Thanks, hopefully going to take a look tomorrow if I can arrange it.

It’s obviously got a popped swirl arm (can see from pic), so half keeping fingers crossed they’ve misdiagnosed it. Will be taking my Vida/dice gear in the hope of surreptitiously reading it before committing 😂

What’s the chances for an auto box and DEM to still be serviceable at 160k assuming they haven’t had fluid changes?

I’ll just post this to close the topic.

Went to view the car, and can see why the passenger side wasn’t pictured on the advert. The car was totally dead, so I couldn’t even pull fault codes.

Even though it was up for £1500 on an ‘08’ plate, I ran a mile - I can tackle mechanical issues, but bodywork, not a chance!
