Default Intermittent loss of power.

Volvo V40 1.9D 2003.
Intermittent loss of power.
When it happens revs are not going over 3k. no power. max speed on flat road 30mph 2nd gear. stalls in 3rd.
Up hill max speed 5mph. Stalls in 1st unless i work the clutch.

This happens randomly when driving around. could be all right for 5 minutes and then snap, no power for 3 minutes and then full power back again.
When all right, it has a lot of power = pulls like a train.

- no warning lights on dash,
- EGR wasn't so bad but i cleaned and is like new, closes tight and with force,
- air mass sensor disconnected for last 4 years, no issues there,

Turbo gone? I fear that! How to make sure?

Help please!
