Default 2012 XC90 gearbox fluid

Hiya guys
I am looking at changing / flushing the gearbox fluid in my 2012 xc90 and I am assuming that it should be jsw3309.
To throw a spanner in the works is that the same as the Toyota ATF-Tiv
or would you guys recommend a certain make as well ( try and remember im new to Volvo ownership)
what quantity would you recommend for a flush
the reason I ask is I saw this on one of the sites for smith and Allan lubricants

ATF JWS 3309 Toyota ATF T-IV T1V Aisin Warner Automatic Transmission Fluid
for some reason its cheaper as the Toyota stuff but I will listen to the guys that know

If you're using the drain & fill method, you'll probably get around 3.5/4 litres out & to get nearly all fresh fluid into the transmission, you'd probably use 15/16 litres of transmission fluid (That'd be 4 drain & fills). If doing a complete flush using the gibbons method, you'll probably need around 12 litres of fluid.

I think the XC90's continued to use JWS3309 fluid up until 2014. Other Volvo models used JWS3324/AW-1 fluid from 2012 onwards.

Just done my 2012 with oil purchased from Smith and Allan 20 Ltd drum for £85 free delivery.with the Jws 3324.
Did 3 flushes of about 3.75 lts .will do another flush in 6 months time.
Having just purchased the car and knowing that it had towed all its life with no gear box oil change,it was the first job on the list.

Correct - but they are interchangeable, the main difference is the later AW-1 mix is slightly thinner for economy reasons. However you should not mix them in the gearbox, if you do change fluids then that should only be after a full flush.

Your car I expect will have been filled with JWS3309 at the factory and this will be documented in your owners manual.

Did you notice any differences driving it after the change?

Hi
I have an XC90, 2010, 78,000 mls. Cracker! It has a good service history but I can find any confirmation that the transmission fluid has been changed out, so I'm planning to do it next week. Can anyone tell me whether there is a filter to change out a the same time? I assume not because no one has mentioned anything.
Many thanks

A bit of old thread resurrection but no - most Volvo models that use the TF80 autobox moved to AW-1 for 2011 MY but not the XC90 which remained on JWS3309 until I think 2014 MY.

The owners manual will tell you what you need.
