I've got the 2.0D PSA engine in my V70 VOR

I bought the car with high mileage (198,000) & even with a full service history you never really know how a car has been looked after and driven.

All fine for 10,000 miles but then broke down on me (Exhaust Camshaft sheared and took the HPFP with it!!!) £1600 pounds lighter & with new tappets and lifters and new cambelt I fully expect the engine to get to 300,000 miles.

They are good engines but make sure the oil is changed when it needs it and use good oil, my mechanic said it was quite sludgy in my engine so take the FSH as a pinch of salt.

I might have been unlucky but they are good engines, if a little under powered in the V70.

Don't be worried though, it's on original clutch, DMF, EGR, Turbo & DPF

Default Will my V70 last....

I am the proud owner of a 27 year old 240GL estate, which is still running very well indeed. I did have a V70 but I wasn't very impressed with that thing. I've also got an XC70 which Is working, but it isn't as good as my 240. These are the result of Ford running the company for (thankfully) a relatively short time and are now (hopefully) being better produced by the Chinese. The quality fell drastically while in Ford's hands (justifying the " Fix Or Repair Daily") tag.

I'm quite happy to accept that reduced quality and poor design might be more common on newer Volvos, but when comparing the reliability of a modern V70 to a 240GL, what proportion of the issues are related to electronics e.g. sensors/modules ? In other words, looking at all the part of a 240GL, are the equivalent parts in a car 20 years newer actually worse ?

Absolutley yes they are, volvos up until about 1998 always used the top quality parts and were often better than the supplier normally supplied , a great deal of them supplied from the UK .you don't see the name Bosch anymore except in odd sensors , the upholsterty never had wear , The cars rarely needed parts and never broke down despite their workload being as hard or harder than today , they were all over the country doing 50000 - 100000 miles a year with no problems , belts, tensioners , alternators , radiators ,batteries , starters , gearboxes , clutches were never a problem ..brakes and discs lasted twice as long as todays despite having the same usage .. Paintwork was superb with 13 layers you can T cut them every year and never rub through .
