Drivers Seat Splitting
I'm mortified, I've had my 2009 XC90 Active for nearly 4 years now, and it's only done 56,000 miles and the drivers seat has started to split, it is the half-leather/pvc type, (I say PVC because it doesn't look like leather now it's split, even though they're sold as half-leather), has anyone ever had these repaired? You think when you buy a Volvo you are buying a "quality product" with long lasting features. Not so sure now. Looking on ebay, the front seats (leather) seem to go for anything upto £200 each! Is that my last resort?

Hi,
There are numerous threads about this on the forum, here's just one of them: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...seat+splitting It would seem to be a common problem on the Active cloth/pvc seat covering, some owners have been able to claim a warranty repair but I think you'll be unlucky owing to the age of your car. Nothing to lose in asking though or getting a quote from a reputable upholsterer to replace the vinyl part. This was one of the reasons I swerved around an Active model when looking to buy an XC90 and went for an SE with leather faced upholstery. Good luck Paul |

Looking at the previous thread(s), it seems it's a common problem, do any of the other seats out of other Volvo models fit the XC90 rails?

Huddersfield Volvo Breakers just quoted me £125 for a full leather driver's seat in vgc. Give them a buzz.

There are varying grades of leather used in the XC90 depending on spec.
The 'Active' models seemed to get the short end of the deal, which when considering they were a bargain special edition model, it no longer seems surprising (although by no means does this make it acceptable). Id be astonished if Volvo fix it, now that its out of warranty. Your best bet would be an auto upholsterer... I had a similar problem on my Alfa fixed for a very reasonable £100. As a comparison, the high(est) grade leather on my Summum (SE Lux) looks almost as good as new after 70k miles and 5 years use.

I had all 7 seats re trimmed in leather, including door cards and armrest. Still have my old seat covers (from active) but the drivers is split. Maybe you can use the passenger seat base cover ?

XCF seat cover
Hi XCF
Is your passenger seat cover still available? My drivers side has split but I assume the passenger cover will fit the drivers side too. I'd be really interested if you still have it. Looking for charcoal just to confirm. Please email me faulds5@btinternet.com |

I would phone your local dealer before paying for anything,
There was a recall for seat bases on some models, phone to see if yours is in it or get it done with a contribution from volvo
