Hello Robin, err thats wierd
Previous Volvos once out of warranty its been VolvoMax, but the XC90 goes back to Ayr to get serviced, they supplied it and tbh they have done alright by me and the tank, worth the trip I feel.

You think when you buy a Volvo you are buying a "quality product" with long lasting features. Not so sure now. Looking on ebay, the front seats (leather) seem to go for anything upto £200 each! Is that my last resort?
Had exactly same problem with my MY2010 D5 Active, with the same 50/50 cloth/vinyl seats (in black). Had both the cushion and side panel gone on mine when I bought it (not my fault so no comment needed Mr Fata**e).
Took mine to Perfection Group in Whetstone, Leicester. They removed the seat, stripped the cover and replaced the 2 panels with OEM fabric for £200.00. Not cheap, but looks like new now. I was happy to pay.

Same here. Seats cracked at 5 years, 70k miles. Dealer who serviced the car for 5 years was happy to quote £300 per seat to fix bit would not even call Volvo on my behalf to ask for contribution. Worse, he told me he was not aware of other cars having that issue. 2 weeks later, found out that two parents at school had same issue and paid the same dealer the 300£ to fix one and 600£ to fix two about 3 weeks before I called. So not only lazy but dishonest too.
Guest what, they will not see that car again.

Thinking of replacing it but £60k in a new xc90? Really?

I've got a 2010 XC90 Active and for second time drivers vinyl/cloth seats are splitting at under 58k miles of gentle use. Had enough of Volvo's attitude..this is a great car, so they need to step up. I'm going to shame them into doing the right thing, so looking for owners and registrations to add weight to my case that Volvo knew these seat coverings are not fit for purpose and should offer free replacement. Please pass this to anyone you know who's had this issue.. thanks.

There is a 2010 model parked near my house. The seats are shocking - literally split, cracked and peeling all over.

My 2011 ( 2012 MY ) drivers seat with the plastic/fabric seats was split across the lower cushion plastic area at the time of the cars purchase last year.. The car had only covered 18K miles at that time.. I suspect it is the material prematurely aging that is the issue, basically not fit for purpose. The local upholster specialist repaired it with material very similar in appearance to the OEM.
