XC70 D5 185 boost problem

Hi All,

Sorry I'm new to the forum and this has probably been covered before,
I've had a problem with loosing boost/power intermittently over the last 4/5 months initially on the odd occasion I'd start the car and have no boost.
If I stopped turned of the ignition and come back after a while it would resolve itself and have no problem for weeks even months.

Last week the problem got much worse does it on every journey.
Around half way through a typical 10/12 mile journey to work the boost came back on and it absolutely fly's! loads of power but then will go back at random times to no power which is what happened last night at 80mph.

From nosing about on the internet I was thinking it might be a Variable vane problem with them sticking?

I managed to get it on a diagnostics on the weekend and my friend tried moving the Solenoid and it does come up with a message that it cannot complete its action/movement (or something along those lines) and when you physically watch it it does seem to stick.

I have tried spraying some turbo cleaner and I also tried the power maxed turbo cleaner.
This was a bit of a disaster as I tried following the instructions and sprayed it into the outlet pipe but I think this was to far away from the turbo to actually do anything? It also states you need to train can one from the pipe...
I ended up having to suck it out using one of the fluid suction contraptions as it pooled up in the inter cooler pipe because I couldn't really get any closer to it.

To cut a long story short do you think the symptoms described are in relation to Turbo vanes sticking?
It seems to me that once it is warm the vanes can move and it gets stuck at full boost and then will get stuck in the open/closed position?

The car is not in Limp mode and can be driven as normal it just takes a really long time to get up to speed!

I also cleaned by EGR out as much as possible yesterday it wasn't as bad as some of the pictures I've seen of other cars but was pretty coked up with carbon.

fault codes prior to cleaning the EGR are..
91A0 Throttle module faulty signal
28D0 Heated Oxygen sensor (H02S) Faulty signal
28E0 Heated Oxygen sensor (H02S) Faulty signal
2810 Heated Oxygen sensor (Ho2S) Faulty signal
9190 Throttle Module faulty signal
135F Mass air flow (MAF) Sensor Faulty signal
9140 Throttle module faulty signal
6710 EGR control flow to low

As you can see I have no clue what I am talking about! sorry about the long Essay but I am wracking my brains about what to do next.

I have had a very similar problem just had mine sorted today turned out to be the actuator on the turbo had it repaired cost £100... Flying again now

Not sure if i'm posting this correctly.
I was driving at around 30mph and when i accelerated i heard a loud woosh of air and now car won't accelerate, could it be a turbo hose, where is best place to start looking.

Hi mate

You should probably have started your own thread, but no worries.

That sounds like exactly what happened when my turbo hose popped off. Take the under-cover off and have a look at the black tube which goes under the sump towards the centre of the car - there is a mount that breaks and allows the tube to drop down off the turbo.

Another common place on earlier engines was the tubes at the front of the engine (as seen looking into the bonnet).
