Default Intercooler return pipe leak.

Has anybody ever loosened and removed the intercooler oil return pipe where it secures to the underside of oil filter housing ? Mine has weeped oil for years but is geeting worse so I assume there is a rubber seal of some description up inside. I did gently attempt to loosen the securing nut but it was locked solid and I didnt want to force it. Anybody know what the seal would look like and availability.... it is my engines only leak and irritating me now!

Cheers chaps,

Jon

I don't understand your question. The intercooler doesn't have a oil return. Do you mean turbocharger? Or do you have a picture?

Yes Chooch, oil cooler return pipe. The oil filter housing has an out and an in both like large brake hoses with a nut securing them to the oilf filter housing.. my return one is leaking so I figure there must be a seal up inside.

Cheers

those are water hoses surely ? Unless you have an early car with an oil radiator too down by the side of the water radiator ??

Is it leaking from the Banjo joint Jon or further up where the rubber hose is crimped onto the banjo fitting?

If it's the oil cooler return pipe, then I don't believe there is a rubber seal, it's just a brass olive, (see this link) that's used to create a compression joint when the (male) pipe mates into the (female) oil filter thermostat housing.

Yes scoob thats the diagram required. Part 12 is the line thats leaking so I assume that parts 14 15 16 are the areas i need to research.

Cheers.

Yes I've done this on the 360 turbo (97 940 engine), its a little different (oil/water exchanger). it might just be the centre oil filter stud is loose, but mine has no oil pipes just water pipes.
