Your car is trying to tell you that you need a new bonnet catch with microswitch , unless you didn't latch it properly of course ...

All is ok, apart from one little niggle. Before, with the old fob (still have and is still working) when I locked the car, the hazards flashed once. When I opened it, the hazards flashed twice.

Now, the hazards flash twice on opening the car, but don't flash once when I lock the car.

Is this something that can be rectified? I mean, should I care? Or am I being pedantic?

Afterall, I did just fork out £193 to have this work carried out.

Any thoughts / suggestions please would be welcome.

Yes, you are right, it looks that way. Any idea how much that item is? Is it an easy repair?

Simmy, the dealer in Edinburgh is Murray's. Supply fob, software download and labour. £193. No new key.

Not an easy repair you have to get the bumper off and struggle getting the cable out and into the new catch .

If your alarm siren is playing up , you can get a kit with new siren which includes the shear off bolt and bonnet catch with switch .

Why not blast some WD40 about and always slam the bonnet. WHY spend pennies without need? If and when you sell the car the dealer / new owner won't have a clue and you will have saved a lot of pennies. Any used car is a pig in a poke and if bonnet / alarm is the only issue you're way ahead of some of the carp out there.

Ok, thanks. Shame, as I just had the siren replaced. When the dealer programmed the new fob, that was the first time the catch switch had played up.

It isn't too bad at the moment, and the alarm isn't playing up. It can wait until the next MOT. I can buy the catch / switch on it's own of course?

For several years a replacement siren was cheaper when purchased as a kit from Volvo which included a bonnet catch. In most cases the bonnet catch will not have been used and some will have gone straight in the waste bin. Others are probably stored in garage cupboards.

A few opening and closings of the bonnet will usually clear the problem. if it persists and you think you need a new catch, try asking in the wanted section of this forum.

Thanks Roger, I will see how I get on with the WD40 route. Hopefully it will be ok soon enough.
