I could out my 940 on for 5k but no one would buy it. In fact the turquoise 940cd has been on Ebay for around two years at 4995 !
I agree with everything youve said above^^^^^^^^^^^.

Dealers/Traders prices, are never "real world prices"...I like to use the term "Tourists Prices"...back in the 1990's, i used to deal in Antiques/house clearance etc. dealers would buy antiques from me, then place them in their "fancy shops", with a lovely little price tag on them!
6 months later(or more) a Tourist, might visit this fancy little shop, an buy overpriced said antique.

Volvo enthusiasts = real world prices.

Volvo traders/dealers = Tourists prices.

Another way of looking at it is how much the car is going to cost or depreciate over the time you own it. I bought my three 940s in 1999, 2003 and 2011 respectively. They cost £12k, £8k and £5k all from dealers. This works out at £545, £444 and £500 cost per year to date. However, I expect all still have a residual value which in some instances might actually be increasing. I think these figures compare quite favourably with the cost of buying modern Euroboxes over a similar period.

I gain the impression dealers reckon to put a 100% mark up on older cars. In a way this is understandable if the buyer has recourse to dealer support. The advertisements which really deserve to go nowhere are the private sellers asking dealer prices and the dealers asking top whack on the basis of a “trade” or “spares and repair” sale.

Thats an interesting way at looking at things.

Its the same all over(with everything for sale) from a newspaper, to a car, to a house, to a ship/aeroplane/island etc etc. If a private person, sees an item for sale(the seller being a dealer) then private person thinks- Hey, if that dealer wants that price for it, then surely i can ask the same price for my similar item!

I have nothing against Dealers/Traders, they are not in their chosen field for kicks/fun...they are out to make money...much like the local newsagents, selling their daily newspapers for a mark up/profit.

Car enthusiasts, tend to slag off traders, they bleat about the outrageous prices these dealers want for their "whares". Comparing the Traders hiked up prices, against their own opinions, about their own cars. This is nothing new...its been like this for a looooooooooooooonnnnng time.

If you see a car/item you like, then either buy it...or move on...but dont bleat about the price, if the price is not for you...................move on, an forget about it. Find a car/item you like, in your price range...an buy it..............or not.

Short story - At least 15 years ago, i saw a trader/dealer advertising a very nice 940 estate. I met him at his house (huge old property) we haggled over the price for a bit.........then i noticed a pile of broken wood/draws etc, in one of his huge rooms, in his house. Just by looking at this pile of wood, i knew it was a Victorian, leather topped, 9 drawer desk...i said to the car dealer - "If you throw in that broken old desk, then i will give you £900 for the 940".
We loaded the broken desk into the back of the 940, i gave him £900...an drove straight to a furniture dealer/restorer friend of mine, who was very happy to give me £150 for the 9 drawer desk.
I have no doubt that my friend, would have restored that desk, an probably sold it for at least 4 times what he gave me. That desk would have probably ended up...in a fancy antique shop, with a lovely little price tag on it...an maybe, just maybe, 6 months down the line, a Tourist would have paid £900 plus, for the Vict. 9 drawer desk!!!

£1500 if you are actually after a sale. Silly priced ones are not relevant to your sale.

There isn't that many deranged people out there that desire to bomb around in 25 year old un-tunable luxobarges doing 20 mpg unfortunately.

Yours is the best colour with the best wheels though, I'd pay about 2k.

Here's some that have allegedly sold recently:

Volvo 960 3.0 24v 79k miles - immaculate condition very rare car
£2995, 33 bids, 31st Oct.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-960...-/224207394574

VOLVO 960 3.0 24V ESTATE AUTO 168K 1995 NO RESERVE SUPERB EXAMPLE
£1900, 24 bids, 14th Nov.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-960...-/333785753140

VOLVO 960 MK11 1994 SALOON 138K - NEW MOT - NICE ORIGINAL CONDITION
£799, 1 bid, 9th Dec.

Cheers for those links...you obviously "keep a breast of things", in regards to all 900 series stuff! Some nice examples.
The green 960 saloon looked a real bargain at that low price!! You can see a white 900 series on the drive, in the background, so perhaps an enthusiast, that has upgraded? Not sure i could live with a green car though, i think green is my least favourite colour...but any colour volvo works for me(even green!!)

Yor are right, these days, it does take a certain type of deranged person, to drive a pre 2000 volvo!!!...Got my 1st 240 Estate (S.reg) in the late 1980's..."Once a volvo driver, always a Volvo driver".
Cheers Paul.

Edit - PS. When searching, i did find a couple of 960/v90 estates, but i thought i would just list/compare the saloons.

Why, why, why do people not put lpg conversions in these amazing tanks?

At my last count last year I had quickly recouped the £1400 cost of installation in 2014 and was now £8K in profit. No loss of power, no problems, no issues, just a grin from ear to ear every time I tank up.

I know some people just cannot get their hands on £1400 in any way, shape or fashion full stop but many owners can get a bank loan and the money you save every month on petrol from the get-go pays the bank loan anyway!

I've done a couple of my own conversions using secondhand kit and also guided someone else through their own conversion using secondhand kit, also in the middle of a (painfully long) conversion on my 760, again using secondhand kit. So far the cost of each has been in the region of ~£300 plus of course my time but payback time has obviously been considerably less.

I think most people are just scared of LPG because they don't know it.

What sort of annual mileage do you do ? I'm not really bothered about the price of petrol and only do around 4.5k a year but I'm curious as to what mileage makes it worth your while for the £1400 cost of LPG installation.

Cheers
