Faulty alarms
There seems to be a few people with alarm problems on here at the minute. If i lock my v70 with the fob, after a short time the hazards start to flash. The horn/siren dos'nt go off, the little red led on the dash flashes like crazy, and the message panel reads "alarm triggered" !!! If i lock it just using the key nothing happens, but obviously the alarms are not set, which is not ideal really. Anyone know how to fix it, or whats causing it.
Thanks people |

probably the siren as it is not sounding . First step is to replace that ( Or it's battery ) and see how it goes ... the stored fault codes will help which direction to go ....

Right, got mine tested with a guy and his fancy computer.
The reason I have this exact same issue is 2 fold: 1) the lights flashing etc are due to a faulty connection on the back window of the car leading the alarm to think the back window has been broken. Should be an easy fix of cleaning the connectors up and is a common problem aparently. 2) the siren doesnt sound as its probaly the battery in it and / or the siren is duff again not unheard of if you pardon the pun. Im personally not too fussed wether the alarm siren works, people tend not to take any nothice of them anyway ans can fix this as and when I want, but the window connection I'll be sorting ASAP. Hope this helps Quote:

Thanks, thats useful info.
I would never of thought of checking window connections to correct a faulty alarm. I would of just gone down the route of repacing the alarm box, and then wondering why it wasnt fixed.

Well today ive looked at the connectors on the back window, taken them off, cleaned them, put them back on... no joy
in the passenger side there is the unit that to do with the radio antenna, i didnt clean the connections on that, I assumed it wouldnt of helped but perhaps I was wrong. |

You will probably find that both rear side windows and the tailgate glass wiring are involved so you may need to look a bit further into this.
What year is the car? |

Hi Chris thanks for the reply
Its a S60 2003, I cant see theres anything wrong with the rear window, infact the only connections to it are for the heater, which still works. There is the antenna for the radio on there also and that also works. I know for a fact the siren is faulty so it could be this. It just seems odd the alrm will trip but not after any predetermined time, could 10 mins could be 3 hours. I assume there are door / bonnet and boot switches but cant see them if there are. I will replace the siren but that if not the fault will present another issue in that when the alarm trigger it will now make a noise.... any further advice? |

we have sold a countless number of these siren kits this year, all down to failing internal batterys/ unlike the P1 model thoguh you cant just change the battery, well, not by buying a volvo genuine part, though maybe if opened up you could find a replacement, that i dont know. what i do know is that if you buy the siren on its own expect to pay around £140.00 approx. however, what more honest dealers will tell you is that you can buy this exact siren in a full kit, which includes everything you need to change this unit, and more, and it works out a lot cheaper
