Xc70 D3, New EGR fitted now cutting out when up to temp
I had a new EGR fitted after the car was stalling soon after it was started and then wouldn't restart for hours later. Since the new EGR has been fitted starts first time every time. However, once up to temperature it starts miss firing and then eventually stops.
Garage say to have done a partial regen on the DPF. |

I suppose we need to dig into the root cause,
Why did you replace the EGR? Was it indicated as failed by the diagnostics? The EGR has a few parts to it, there is the EGR butterfly, throttle valve, and EGR valve, if any of them is shutting at the wrong time it could be starving the engine of air or causing the mixture to go out of range. This is a EURO IV engine, might be slightly different to your EURO V, but similar set up.

For what it is worth,
A V50 which my daughter owned a while ago developed what was diagnosed as an EGR fault and was dropping into limp mode. The EGR valve was removed and cleaned and found to apparently be in order but the fault persisted. Fault was eventually traced to the stepper motor which operates the EGR valve. Is that the stepper motor at the bottom in picture 3?

what was the fault code indicating ?
You have a much sturdier EGR valve than on the ford engines it does not use a stepper motor but a conventional very strong electric motor . The only problem is sometimes the position sensor after doing 100+ 000 miles which is the black cover at the front , check the operation by hand , press that grey spring loaded arm down in the picture , it should have some resistance as the motor turns but should be smooth and have no tendency to stick .
