S60 flat battery and "el current high" message
Hi chaps, hope somone can help. Found a flat battery on my 2002S60 on Saturday so put the battery on charge. Started fine on Monday morning but on my way to Gatwick, in M23, came up with EL Current High Stop Safely message, plus other warning lights which quite quickly went out again. Easier said than done on M23 but a short while later came up with Battery Voltage low. Made it to airport carpark where car now sits with flat battery and won't start again.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be and what I could do at the end of the week to at least get it home, or someone other than an airport carpark? Help much appreciated. Many thanks |

Suggest your alternator has failed.
Found this post mentions a repairer near Crawley: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...t=74079&page=2 |

That's what I was afraid of, thanks Chris. Do you think I would do any damage if I put a newly charged battery in at least to let me drive it away? Would make things a lot easier if I could drive it off the airport and I've got a spare battery from my V70 at home. Don't want to risk damage to the electrics though.

Difficult to know without seeing the car.
If the alternator has no output then the risk is only that the battery will be flat before you reach you destination. If the output has gone high then there is clearly risk of damage to the cars electrical systems. Do you have breakdown cover that will recover the car home for you? |

My wife does, so I may have to persuade her to come with me to get the car recovered. I suspect the output may be too high as per the original message, I guess I could disconnect it and take the risk that the battery lasts - it's not too far (about 25 miles) so it should.
