I sort of follow your instructions there, but I expect it'll all be clear when I get a closer look

At this stage I'm not sure where the break is, but I see what you're saying; if it's not too far downwards of the coupling I should be able to feed it all back up, solder and put a bit of heat shrink on it then pull it back. Is that what you're saying? I had in mind that was going to be renewing the whole length of wire, but now I see that that is unnecessary if I'm following you correctly. So thank you. I might not cry after all!!

On a separate topic, I read that you have written some notes on how to overcome an erratic rev counter. Is there a chance you could please point me in the right direction? Thank you

Just happened to see this before Ron's reply so I'm sure he won't mind if I give you the link.

All sorted now, so thanks for your guidance. I was able to get to the break by pushing and pulling through the joint, soldered that together, soldered new wire to the bit remaining at the bottom and pulled it all up through as easy as anything.

A working horn now and another job ticked off the list!
