2016 XC60 RDesign help with faults
Hello all, two issues bugging me:
Parking sensors - front and rear show faults and then the system switches itself off -mainly in the wet sometimes in the dry - variety of sensor positions showing a fault before it disengages - dealer looked and said couldn't find anything. It doesn't sound like individual sensors any ideas what else? - wiring loom/control box -just so when I take it back and get insistent I can give them a clue. Boot release - just an RDesign [unlike our previous RDesign Lux] so it doesn't have self opening boot but given there is a bonnet release button on the right of the steering wheel shouldn't it at least unlatch the boot? The button does nothing at all. Thanks in anticipation. |

The boot release button has no function in a car not fitted with 'boot release'. The cost of retro-fitting would be significant (far more than the 'option' cost).
As for the sensors, I have occasionally had them go off when not obviously near anything, and if I recall, this has been in wet conditions. However they have never failed. You could try and take a video of the malfunctioning sensors so the dealer has firm evidence there is something wrong.

Thanks - at least that's the button issue cleared up and good idea about videoing the sensors - I'd hope they would show on the fault log too but extra evidence can only help.

The sensors on my XC60 are far more sensitive than they were on either of my previous cars that had them (Jag and Skoda) and I find mine bleeping for no apparent reason whatsoever with nothing in sight in front or behind.
I assume a leaf or some other form of debris blowing down the road can trigger them off.

When I had mine they were a bit random in the rain sometimes.
Dealer said this is normal / What can we do if they have rain drops on them? |

Mine do the same in damp weather, its always one of the 2 outer front ones but usually clears after driving a bit, obviously dries out.

Thanks all, I don't mind them being a bit sensitive but it's juts a bit off putting when it shuts itself off - I can see one of us forgetting and driving into something...

Could be as simple as a raindrop running down over the sensor?
Does it happen more often when you are going very slowly or stopped when water will have chance to run down? Could also be a small bit of something trapped in the sensor which in itself is not enough to set it off but when it gets wet is bigger. Try cleaning the sensors carefully with an old toothbrush. I had a problem on a Mercedes once when they went off in hot weather particularly when parked in direct sunlight. Turned out to be the adhesive strip in the front numberpate that was failing and when hot the number plate bent out slightly and set the sensor off. New adhesive strips cured the problem.

Thanks Whyman - I'll go and give them all a clean with panel wipe - hadn't thought of that!
