Says it was first reg 2nd March 1965, so I'd say that meant a '65 model. "New & Improved" 65's were built from after the summer break in '64 so about 3 months of production in '64. Things like the rubbers might have crossed over for a while. All the obvious model changes are there, upholstery, grille, boot lid handle, wheels etc. No sign of the tube for the rad blind and the oil cap is now at the front. Front panel and grilles did tend to get "upgraded" after damage due to unavailability of the earlier type.
Chassis number would date it reasonably closely.

- Boot lid handle - changed to the portraid in 1964 models
- Oil cap - moved from center of valve cover - during '64 models - your idea of the oil cap's place is in correspondance with radiatorblind is not right.
- Interior, grills, wheels, are all items that get changed over the years.

Chassis number will give a correct answer.

It could have been on it's way for some time? Don't rely on logbook - Chassis number and/or type designation, thanks.

It looks a lot like a 1964 yearmodel, not a '65..

Many little details as to why.. (Most significant is colour and the rubber-lip for the engine lid (over the cooler) and the clamps holding the rubber-list for the engine lid at the wind screen)

The key in the picture is genuine for the pre '65 models - It can either be ASSA or LM Ericsson

BTW - Todays reproduction of ign. key/lock barrel is a strange mix of the new barrel style and the old key style - I don't get why they did it like that..

Me thinks your 4door got a face lift in the 1991 operation..
In believe the rationale was that the ASSA design of key is inherently stronger than the Neiman but the vast majority of cars had Neiman barrels so it doesn't alter the look of the car.

Could be a point - strength of key - but it does alter the look, if you are into details - since the Neiman key/barrel came with the 1965 models.

Good - Disc brakes makes it most likely a 1965 if a 121 and not a 122.

Well according to the logbook and badges its a 121 so i hope it is.

Done a bit more work today.

I put a bit of weight on the passenger wing and it cracked all the way along... a quick poke made this hole....

Which was made completly of filler, no metal left.

Once id unbolted the bottom of the wing it came off leaving not much behind.

Also removed the front panel as there wasnt much holding it in place.

Im a bit unsure on this bit, should there be somthing poking out there or should it be flat steel? (I know the rust shouldnt be there)

Took the badges off too to keep them safe.

If you had emotional reasons for rescuing that car, fair enough. Without those, it's only fit for one thing imho...but if you are to persevere then I wish you the best of luck.
