Default Water ingress

Volvo V70 Diesel Auto 57 Plate

After a recent thunder storm, I had 1/2" of water in the passenger foot well.

My guess is that it has come in through the heater ducting.

Any ideas, and remedies please.

Presumably the heater matrix hasn't let go or you'd have noticed the loss of coolant. If your guess about the heater ducting is correct this would suggest to me that the scuttle drain holes are blocking up/are blocked.I don't know on these where the pollen filter lives but if under scuttle check that also.

My money is on leaky windscreen: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=239324

You may see streaks down the inside of the 'screen. It won't be heater ducting as there is no direct route from the outside.

Garage has cleared 10 years of leaf debris from the scuttle, and cleared out drains. I am assured it will be OK now.

Time will tell.

Cool

And which clever designer at Volvo thought it would be a good idea to put a couple of holes through the bottom of the drain tubes to anchor them with a tie wrap and stop debris free flow?

Well, garage was wrong. It seems the windscreen is falling out. New one being fitted on Monday, after I bale out gallons of water from the foot well again...

I have never had a screen come lose or leak before. Seems like a big fail for Volvo.

Looks like I won that bet then . I'm taking mine into main dealer in a couple of weeks so will see what they have to say when I show them the problem. Manufacturers bang on about bonded windscreens being integral to vehicle strength & then seem to wash their hands of it when they fail.

I took mine to a dealer. He said that Volvo "Might" pay to remove and refit the screen, but if it breaks they would not may for a new one.

If it's had a replacement windscreen fitted before, when they scrape off old bonding around the body they take paint off which then rusts when new window is fitted. Over time the rust gets under bonding causing leaks
