3) What logic is the car applying when using the handbrake. 90% of time I can just drive off and it disengages but sometimes, in reverse mostly (only?) I have to manually release it.

Thanks Oliver
I was told that if you feather the throttle in forward or reverse gears it will always disengage the handbrake but if you are to gung ho it wont. Apparently a safety feature to stop accidental depressing of the accelerator.

Parking brake will always release automatically when I gear if you have the drivers seat belt buckled irrespective of how hard you press the throttle, conversely it doesn’t matter how hard you press the throttle if you don’t have the seat belt buckled then the brake will not release automatically

I've got a fold down mat (albeit pretty thin) it would have taken some of the sting out of the brick though. I had to remove it though when I'd finished loading the bricks as it had slipped too far forward.

I've attached a picture of the damage - not sure who does the best touch up paint?

Not on my car. I regularly set off without the seat belt fastened and the handbrake releases automatically every time.

In that case the switch in the buckle is faulty - or you have bypassed it - as what I describe is how it is designed to work and does on all other XC60

Agreed - worked like that on both of my XC60’s and also does on the new XC60.

My wife wasn’t aware of this the first time she went to reverse off our gravel drive without her seat belt on and the noise the car made was awful, even made our neighbour’s look out of their window to see what the noise was!!

Definitely not bypassed it, so maybe it is faulty. Must have had a faulty switch on my previous 58 plate V70 as well. Thank goodness. More irritating and unnecessary nannying.

didn't realise it was dependent on having seatbelts on. Only had it since March, too....many thanks:-)
