OK this is really odd. I tried to start precon using the app and when I got to the car it said the usual could start precon low battery. So whist sat in the car I set a precon timer for 5 mins time. I turned off the ignition and open and closed the door. Whilst in the car the precon started perfectly and ran perfectly on the timer with no battery warning.
I'm now wondering if this is an app connectivity issue and would be grateful if someone could try starting precon by the app. I use android. It seems the battery isn't the issue.... However start stop never works...

Unfortunately I don't have a charger. My start / stop only works after I've done a 500mile round trip and then within a day or two stops working again.

Perhaps you just found a bug in software that allows you to bypass low charge restriction. Precon is definitely a charge negative activity as alternator is not firing and it’s not a self sustained burn. So I would not try to force it. The car is designed to save us some battery juice until the engine starts. Cold car is better than bricked car. They could have some problems with systems shutting down correctly. I remember people had problems like faulty switchboard or air compressor drawing current in early cars. Volvo used to try and establish what was drawing current leaving car overnight on monitoring equipment.
Mine is going for stopstart fix tomorrow. Third time in the last three months. It was rejuiced and reset just three weeks ago then tested on the day to confirm that ss worked then two days later ss didn’t work for me and this weekend car was in standby after just three days of idling. It used to take well over a week. I would be shocked if these issues are not all related as battery low charge would be leading to both.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one day MOT gets an item to test stopstart. We would be failing. I would insist on fixing it.

I use Android (version 8) and successfully started precon twice on Saturday using the app. I'll check if it works okay tomorrow.

I invested in a C-Tec mxs 7.0 battery charger, its a great charger but we should not have to be charging batteries on new cars, but it gets SS working again. The SS support batteries are only small, about 11 A/hr, not man enough for the job if doing lots of small journeys.

I don't believe its a battery capacity issue. My XC90 does mostly short journeys too but stop/start works fine.

Must be my battery then as ss works ok after charging up, I know there is a support battery capacity % were the ss does not work as my dealer service dept lowered my % setting and said it was set too high and ss would not work if battery dropped below that, think it was set for 80% capacity before they lowered it. SS only lasted a a week or two after getting it back.
