Question from an ignoramus ;-)
Morning all.
I've got a P2 V70 AWD D5 (2006) which I'm changing soon for a P2 V70R, in the certain knowledge of having far worse fuel consumption but not murdering everyone with particulate emissions, just gassing you all with CO2 instead Question - does anyone know if wheels off the 2006 one will fit the older one? As I don't yet have it, I can't check offsets and all that stuff, but I've got a set of newly refurbished rims that I want to use for winter tyres on the R. The standard R wheels are 18" - my spare set are 17" so I'll need bigger profile tyres anyway., but are 17" wheels likely to foul brake calipers?

I believe, and don't quote me... but you can get 17" Pegasus alloys but they are very rare. No other Volvo alloys of that era will fit, ie 17". I believe it's more to do with the clearance between the back of the spoke and the caliper.

What I myself don't understand is why are you changing for petrol...
It was mentioned more than once that keeping the car (as opposed to change) would be more environmentally friendly.. Of course its only an opinion of mine, maybe few others too.. You have full right to disagree. But please mind: if you scrap car whilst its still in working condition, you are creating a flux of "dirt" coming from: A) draining, scraping, disassembling the car B) building replacement for it Or, if you were to sell it, someone will still use it and release particulates into the air.. And he/she may have foot heavier than yours.. Or not. |

Actually, Direct Injection petrol engines like in a V70R give out more particulate matter than a diesel equipped with a DPF. It is only NOx where diesel's fall short.

On a serious note I’m well jealous- I will always regret not buying a late p2 v70 t5. I would’ve loved the v70R but couldn’t justify one as a family run around at the time.

Thanks for variously useful comments. I don't seriously claim to be swopping cars for environmental reasons - it's more that I used to have an 850R which was great except for being 2WD, and the P2 V70R is AWD, more powerful, and the P2 is still to my eye the best-looking Volvo ever. :-)
65th birthday present to myself, so state pension will just about cover the fuel bills and extra tax
