Noticed that. Would be helpful to have a way to seeing the version installed. Anyone know if that’s possible from diagnostics or otherwise? Any dealer lurking that can help?

Just noticed this post. As my car was recently serviced (October 2019), am I able to book my car in for this software upgrade or do I need to wait till its next service?

TIA

I'm not even sure when it came out... given my car apparently had a software update last week, but I've got no way of knowing if/when etc

Software upgrades are usually only installed as part of a service or when necessary to resolve an issue.

I understand that you can ask a dealer to update software as a standalone exercise but they will make a charge. Probably easier and cheaper to wait until the next service.

It depends from dealership to dealership. Mine so far so good. I have the latest software... i mean the latest before this one. I go there with no appointment i just ask kindly and kindly they update But the idea behind car software updates is to wait till next service. Or you might book your car in for the software update but you will pay for it. Dealership will charge you. It's up to you.

With my XC90 I am due for service next week (1 year regular check) so I will get new updates then. But yesterday I went to Volvo with my wife's car so I used this opportunity and talked to a technician regarding which updates I will get for my XC90, whether it will include also the January update or which is the latest month that will be included. And to my surprise (I was naive, I know) he had no idea. He basically had no idea about any of previous updates, which things got improved, etc. Absolutely no clue. It was so disappointing to learn that although the guy works there, he has no interest in these cars, not even 1 inch beyond his job description. I attempted to talk to him about Pilot Assist (PA2 vs PA3, etc.) and nothing meaningful came out of him. So I gave up. This was all during a test drive, so we had plenty of time to discuss things, it was not like he was just trying to get rid of me or that I was wasting his time with my questions...

Anyway, regarding the updates for my XC90 he was just mumbling about "Service 2.0" or something like that, which will include updates...but of course, no idea which ones. He even checked my VIN code and I know the product code of this update (#31438124) but probably it does not mean anything.

Question

Does anyone know what is the difference between the model years, because this software update applies only for late 2018 onwards? Is it the ECU or any other hardware of the engine?
Thanks
