Sorry I see the trail of thought now.

I assumed petrol engines would be of similar efficiency irrespective of T6 or T8 and so many variables with passenger weight / fuel in the tank / junk in the boot, that the weight of the battery in the T8, whilst there, all but blends out.

I could well be wrong.

Same here re xc70 ! I’m 6’4 and did find the headroom tight and as my sons got older and tall as well the xc70 rear space don’t work. I tried the xc90 but due to the 7 seat function actually found the xc60 to have better leg room. But am sure you’ve tried them both and the xc90 works better for you I’ll pass you back to those in the know - happy hunting

Although no longer being built. However, used V90 CC for consideration?
Plenty of rear leg room with slightly higher ride height.

I didn't bother with the Diesels as I prefer the Petrols. I get approx 26 MPG on the motorway sat at 78 so this would be more if I sat at 60 MPH. Hope this helps give you some real world figures but I live on the Isle of Man so it is used up hills which will have a negative impact on the battery usage. Cheers.
Sitting at an indicated 70mph on the motorway (actual 66) gives me an mpg of about 37 without any battery charge. Read out in car is always about 3mpg higher than actual from brim to brim calcs. I have about 80k miles worth of real data over 4 years since I bought my car from the lease company and started paying for my own fuel.....

I'm looking at the XC90 but can't decide on the B5 or T8 there's a big difference on price and I'm not sure which would be better.

Most of the time a 20 mile range wouldn't be a problem for me, doing the school run and local drive daily. The issue is once a week I drive to London and back and while I think the T8 would be great the rest of the time I'm concerned that its going to be more of a hindrance on the big journeys. Part of me thinks a Petrol or Diesel B5 would be happy with the mileage and would give me the distance as and when I need it.

My reservations are given may budget the cars I'm looking at have between 25k and 45k on the clock roughly between 2020 and 2021 plates. So if I plan to own over the next 4-5 years I'm easily going to top 100k and I'm not convinced on the battery life over 100k.

Sorry bit of a brain dump but hope I can get a bit of guidance.
On battery life over 100k.

Mine is now just a short drive below 170k. Battery range is lower than when new, but has not fallen off a cliff. It takes about 6kw to charge now (used to take about 8-8.5 when new). I get about 11 miles at an indicated constant 70. Probably about 14 miles if I sat at 56mph behind an HGV but I only bring myself to that when I am trying to eek out a journey back to work (where fuel is cheaper than at home!)

My biggest repair cost has not been the erad or hybrid system, but a new IC engine. Complete engine failure is not unheard of in both diesel and petrol. In fact there is a cheap ex police T6 on Autotrader at the moment which says it had a new engine at 98k miles.

We own a XC90 B5D, local driving around mid 30s mpg, steady motorway runs between 60-70 returns mid 40s mpg.

Back in November we competed a same day round trip to Bodmin at just over 500 miles mostly motorway, took it steady with cruise set on 60mph. We got there and back and did a further 150mile before deciding to fill up. After about 60miles of steady travel the range was showing a very optimistic 815mile..

We got the XC90 primarily for caravaning and planned to use our Kona for local runs etc however we have found ourselves using the XC90 more and more.

We have a momentum spec with comfort and winter packs, that way I got 19inch alloys which are more suitable for towing.

I don’t tow but got the Momentum too for the 19” wheels. Much better suited to rural living, potholes etc.
