Default Limphome mode and error messages after off roading

Hi,

I had 2 error messages come on after washing down my inner wheel arches after a spot of off roading ( really just a few puddles on a farmers track). Anyway the car was fine after the off roading but after I cleaned down the inner arches with a low pressure stream from a garden hose the car went into ‘limphome’ slow driving mode for a few minutes/miles and gave an error message for anti skid and an error message for brakes. This happened twice so I removed the wheels and got under the car and cleaned the sensors and rings with a low pressure garden hose stream whilst turning the shafts. Still no improvement after a drive. So I used the brakes heavily a few times (70mph down to 20mph) and that seemed to get rid of the error messages. But the messages came back after a few miles. But I no longer get the ‘limphome’ slow driving when I start driving the car in the morning.
My question is do the error messages get erased automatically if the problem is sorted – or do they have to be erased with a diagnostics software too.

Cheers Tony

Hi Tony
The codes are not erased, when certain issues are fixed, the codes are just removed from view so to speak. But they are still stored in the cars memory which can be read with an ordinary code reader (for generic codes) & either left or erased with the reader.
You probably had lot of mud on the abs sensor & even after cleaning, a lot of water can throw a code.
I've had abs codes after the morning dew. Nothing to worry about if it clears,
Only of it keeps returning.
