Hi vhgudjohnsen,

Thanks for your advice, you saved me a lot of time.
Volvo v50, 2005, sport 1.8 petrol
Started with DTSC services, then "break failure" after some bumps. Went away for a couple of days and then in a rainy day would not start.
Disconnecting the neg lead from the battery for a couple of hourse did not help.

Cleaning the CEM with a WD-40 connector cleaner from Homebase £5.70 actually did help (left overnight to dry out the CEM inside the flat). The connections were all clean from the start, so my guess would be that disconnecting and then connecting all back helped, not the cleaning.
Disconnecting 15 min, connecting 10 min (learning curve :-))

Did you get the message back from August up to now?

Cheers

So grateful for this thread. I had the same problem tonight while stopped at traffic lights. Brake failure message power steering fault action required when I tried to turn key the wipers started up the lot. Anyway while sat waiting for recovery truck and pondering how much this was going to hit me finacialy I got my phone out and googled the problem. And arriving at this thread I noticed the CMC problem. After half an hour waiting and randomly trying to start the car I thought I might as well reach under the passenger dash and drop the CMC . Couldn't see any corrosion or damp so I grabbed each electrical block and giggled it about. Sat back in my seat and thought hey worth a try. It started straight away no warning lights nothing. So it got me home straight away. I will strip it down on weekend when I have time but so glad it was nothing serious. Panic over. Thanks guys big time.

Default Anti-skid service required and Brake failure message

My “anti skid service required” and “brake failure make a safe stop” messages were likely caused by a dying battery. After replacing the battery and clearing the error codes, the issue seems to resolve itself.

I had this last year. Took all the plugs off the CEM and cleaned with a nylon brush as per a YouTube video and all was well for 6 months until I got stranded in the rain on a roundabout. Started looking into replacing the CEM but was advised by a Volvo specialist (BMC) to try cleaning the connections again but using a needle file and plugging and unplugging at least 5 times, then use some silicone grease to keep moisture out. That was august and I’ve been fine since (touch wood)...
I still keep a socket set in the car as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery normally re-sets everything long enough to get home

Default Volvo s60 2006 d5... brake failure stop safely message 2020

Hello and thanks for your advice on the cem, I've had several faults with the stop brake safely message, speedo drops out to zero , gearbox even opens up gate to go into reverse... after going through many posts on here I removed all the wiring around and to the ECU found a couple ov Nick's nothing major... after we removed the body control module, broke into the electric box with a dremel we could only find a slight bit corrosion around the circuit board where the bolt goes through so we cleaned and silicone back up and still message came up ...... sombody s post started withtry blowing the horn and yes it works but not if its raining lol so after reading on to the post I'm replying I followed your instructions and removed the wipers to get to the cem bolts and removed cem ....after remove plastics to show the circuits( a very carefully job needs taken here as you could smell the cem totally], I think is a live to the circuit board was a water damaged solder corroded joint so I scraped clean to show the solder and sprayed circuit board with silicone spray .... I also brushed across all pins on cem with a ruff ish file very gently not to bend the pins and reconceceted all the cem and put back together .... snd guess what my light has gone off for three days now including a jet was and some heavy rain .. my friend dave Spraggon the master mechanic helped me all the way and I'm one happy volvo driver happy days ... problem solved and I hope my post helps someone from scratching there heads for weeks like me 😂👍
