Its the same car in both pictures, just the rear window trim is wrong, the rest of it is the same.
the trim should be along the bottom edge of the window, but mine is along the top same as a standard v70. I may have obtained the right trim and window from this wonderful forum, just will need to get it, paint it and fit it. I don't know why the XC70 and V70 have different trim, doesnt seem cost effective to replace the window trim for the XC version but i have to admit i do prefer the XC version personally. |

I guess it makes the XC70 looks Cooler !
But it should really be the seller that puts it right as they have sold you something that differs from what was advertised. Good luck with the car, if it is basically sound it should look after you well. |

Thanks man, i'm enjoying the car, its a big old boat but for the age its in good condition
I wouldnt expect anything from the seller, its in good condition for its age, maybe i missed the window when i viewed it, and was sold as seen. its a cosmetic thing, and a bit of ocd in the mix. i'll be happy to get the right trim on there but its not causing me any problems at the moment apart from an itch i can't scratch |

Def not the right trim as the XC70 trim runs down the rear passenger door pillar edge and along the top of the wing to the rear pillar. It does not run along the roof edge of the window or along the rear pillar.
The V70 trim on the other hand runs up the rear passenger door pillar edge and along the roof edge of the window, it does not run along the top of the wing to the rear pillar. Might be the original window and a previous owner simply lost the original trim and replaced it with a V70 trim or they replaced a broken window with a V70 one. The window is a job to do me thinks, I would however give the car a really good look over at the earliest opportunity, if they couldn't be bothered to do the window correctly then what else has been bodged... And I'd be starting with oil and filter changes to get that 'cheap' Halfords own brand 'one fits all' oil out and some decent in spec stuff in!

Yes i'm in agreement, i'm annoyed i missed it but it is what it is.
i'm waiting to get paid then she'll be getting a new cambelt and full service. i'm also planning on cleaning out the egr pipes as i've seen some videos on it and they can get quite clogged up. its running ok, only issue with it is there is a anti-lock brake service message on it but its not affecting driveability. the anti-lock service message seems to be a bit of a common thing with volvos my s40 has it too and on that its proving to be an egr fault. i havent investigated the xc70 one yet as its not affecting its performance but i will investigate it once i get the s40 sorted. |

For anyone who is interested in this i've been playing with Vida this morning and found the repair procedure for replacement of the rear window.
it seems that the trim in question is glued to the window before the window is installed, so it kind of makes sense now, just looks like for whatever reason the old window was broken and then a replacement from a v70 was used with the trim already attached. one member on here is breaking an xc70 and has offered me the rear window, it needs cutting out the car and will come off with the trim attached if i'm reading the vida instructions right. looks like its going to be a pain in the arse to get off i'm certainly no windscreen technician. If i can get the old window out without breaking it then i'll just paint the trim the colour of my car and have to get it replaced by a professional, fitting the window isn't a diy job, but i'm hoping removing the old one from this donor car is. i've only got a stanley knife, not sure if it will be possible to remove the window with that as seems they use a special took like razor wire to get it off but i'm not sure how you use it. |

Have a look at YouTube to see what that can teach about screen removal. The razor wire is pretty cheap and easy to use once you’ve managed to create an aperture to feed it through.

thanks man, watched a couple of videos were helpful. i've ordered a window removal kit from ebay its got wire and a few other tools, so will give it a go!
at least if i can get the donor trim and window out successfully and paint the trim myself then the only cost is arranging someone to fit the new window. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINDSCREE...53.m2749.l2649 |
