Default dashboard lights

after my odometer messed up....looks like an interesting job!...now the light behind my information panel has given up(the one that shows mpg etc) is this an easy replacement job ..if i am going to take the facia off to do the odometer might as well tackle this at the same time BTW all the repair threads for the odo say replace the broken little wheel why not get another complete s/h unit and just replace it ?

You can replace the unit as long as you replace like for like, there are 2 types of dash display as i understand it, maybe 3. Never to sure how good the gear in the replacement will be anyway so better to replace the Od gear so you keep the same mileage indicated and you know the gear will last a while. Change all the light bulbs at the same time.

Replace just the gear as this will last. S/h parts (apart from having different mileage) will eventually break (1 week after the repair you heard of Murphy didn't you ? )

When changing the gear you should also replace the 2 bulbs which illuminate the trip computer (Volvo specific ) and the 4 big bulbs which illuminate the cluster (standard 3W 12V bulbs which are cheap, Volvo sells them together with the socket for big money). This are the bulbs I am pretty sure you will find them in eBay also http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/...21-x-95d-Clear
