Default water pump noise?

I've had a problem for ages but it's getting worse.

It tennds to only happen on a cold engine in damp weather, but is now more frequent.

I have a squealing noise coming from the fan belt that sounds like the water pump to me, witha sort of helecopter type noise as well.

when the car revs over 2k rpm it seems to go and after about 3-4 miles it also seems to go.

I wonder if a bearing is getting hotr and locking back tight once the car's hot?

How much is a water pump?

Sounds like a slipping belt to me. Cheapest solution is a new properly tensioned belt.

I'm pretty sure that the water pump is driven by the timing belt, so it's very unlikely to be that, the power steering pump pulley or the air conditioning pulley, or even the alternator are far more likely to be the culprit.
