This has always been a fear of mine and i always double check.

Wow, that's either a testiment to volvo build quality or you just got very lucky.

Ive seen many cars where this has happened and they usually have significant damage included a damaged screen, A pillars and roof, they are usually a write off.

The safety catch should have held it, but they don't always and i certainly would dare to trust one to, after all they are old cars now.

If everything is holding down and operating as normal you could just leave it if you werent too fussed with how it looks.

Ha-ha, paint the bonnet and the tops of the wings with flat black paint for an anti-glare "road rally" look. It'll serve to mask the wee denting.

Just a little update. I checked the latch/lock and it was pretty rusty. I put some basic oil on it, worked it back and forth and it started clicking on. Should have done it way before but I didn't, there are other issues in my life I'm dealing with now. At least I didn't kill myself, ironically, hehe. Note to self: keep basics in good working order then you won't have to deal with complicated stuff

Smile once upon a time

I once saw the same thing happen on a softop mgb roadster, the end of the bonnet just folded over the top edge of the windscreen, they must have been doing 70 mph , would have been scary experience as you dont have any roof above your head, always comes to mind when im fiddling with rusty bonnet locks 😁 the bonnet is def aluminium ..

Well to be fair they might not have had when they started, but they acquired a folding hardtop
