Driveshaft query.
I'm wanting to change the front ABS rings on my 2004 AWD R. However when I remove the drive shaft bolt with its big washer what I see is not what I expected. On the circumference of what I would expect to be the drive shaft end is a 1- 2mm rubber "O" ring, and the shaft is a flush fit to the hub. Videos I have seen have the shaft set back inside the hub by 15-25mm. Its almost as if the shaft has a metal tube spacer with a sealing washer to keep the elements out of the shaft end. I have tried to see if it can be removed, but limited force has not shifted it. I have also tried hitting the shaft out (back through the hub) with a light(ish) club hammer, again no joy.
I don't want to go knocking hard if there is a spacer piece which has to come forward to come out. I've never read about a spacer piece - anyone have? Next plan is to run car a few miles with the bolt a couple of turns loose to see if that breaks corrosion adherence. Cheers Bob |

Are you sure it isn't the rubber cone from the anti-ping bolts? Should be able to remove it with a screwdriver if it is.

Well done that man and thank you!!!
Thanks Dancake - you got it right in one. There must be two types of rubber cone, cos mine is not the type that I have seen before. 1st image is cone inplace, 2nd is how I expected to find things - Cone laid in for info...
Once again thanks. Cheers Bob |
