I have a 1997 V70 T5 and wondering what the best set up is for code reading. I've got a crank / no start situation and diagnostics via process of elimination is proving time consuming.
I've read VOL FCR with a laptop is possibly best, but will this work with a modern Windows 10 computer and if so what is the correct cable? Original cable seems to be with a serial port but no modern computer has such a thing. Is there an OBD2 to USB cable that is known to work? I assume most modern OBD2 scanners will not be much help?

I have VOL-FCR running on Windows 10 without any problem, you can download a demo version before purchasing the full version...
https://www.ilexa.co.uk/diagnostic-t...-software.html The interface cable I use is here... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322624482783 There are various posts on here about the software.

Last time I had a Crank/No Start situation my V70, it wasnt the fuel pump relay but the main engine relay, as per my below video. Hopefully this helps.
New fuel pump relay, Still Won't start (FIXED) - Volvo P80 850 V70 S70 C70 XC70 850.

The engine relay is certainly on the list of things to eliminate but I have a feeling it's not that - my understanding is that without the relay the injectors don't fire? When I took the plugs out to check them there seemed to be plenty of fuel in the cylinders. At the moment I get a brief rise in RPM as if it is catching but then it dies. If I keep cranking it doesn't do anything. From my research it could be the ignition antenna ring, also on the list to check are coil, rotor and cam sensor. But I've decided to try and read codes before throwing any more parts at it.

Be interested to know how you get on with VOL-FCR, I've had a lead for ages but not got round to trying the free version yet.

Although I am tempted to just order a new ring as well since a few people have now suggested it sounds like that is the issue.

I think I can hear it, fuel is certainly getting to the rail. First thing I changed was the pump relay because it did sound like a fuel delivery issue initially, but there seems to be plenty of fuel in the rail and in the cylinders.
