850 Alarm won't flash the side repeaters.....

I have an 1995 850 2.5 GLT and I have noticed on a friends 1996 T5 that his indicators flash both when the alarm is enabled or disabled, mine does neither. Although the key fobs are of slightly different design they are both original Volvo alarms.

Does anyone know if the alarm on 1995 850's does not flash the indicators or if there is a way to turn them on.

Do you mean just the side repeaters do not flash or that you don't get the main indicators to flash also?

Assuming it's just your side repeaters then obvious first question - do your side repeaters work?

I found one of mine not working when I first bought my 850. If you pop them off and look at the contacts they get corroded up. So a quick whip round with some contact cleaner or emery cloth and voila. Or alternativly you may have a bulb out.

I meant none of the indicators flash when the alarm is enabled/disabled but all work fine when used for signaling.

Mine is a 94 T5 and my indicators don't flash either. I just thought it was normal.

I'm pretty sure that the alarm control box can be programmed in various ways, but I can't find the leaflet that I had about it. It may be a Volvo 'secret'!!

My 96 850 Tdi has a GAII alarm and all four indicators and both side repeaters flash twice when the the doors are locked or unlocked/alarm set/unset with the remote control, I think the deadlocks ALWAYS set as well, the extra push on the remote button as required with the remote locking (only) isn't needed.

I THINK that the control box is below the bonnet??

mine don't flash either, but when I had the driver's side door trim off too check the window winder I accidentally managed to lock and then unlock the door with the key fob.

There is a black box in the middle of the door about 3x2" which appears to be something to do with the alarm or might even be the alarm control box jaytee mentioned. I think it must have a relay in to flash the indicators because there is a relay like click coming from it when you lock unlock the doors. I think it clicks twice when you lock and three time when you unlock, but don't quote me. It looks like there are a couple of spare wires on the box which I guess might flash the indicators if you were to wire them up.

I'm off to check the Haynes manual now. If I find out I'll let you know.

I had a similar problem with my V70, the dealer changed alarm set and reset signalling with the OBD computer for me under my used car warranty.

The mystery remains unsolved!!!
