Question XC90 Radiator fan runs continuosly when driving

Hi All,

New to the forum, Bought my 2010 XC90 a week ago!

I noticed yesterday and today the radiator fan when the engine is running is continuously on! Temp gauge seems fine reading half way. Turn engine off fan stops, Start engine fan starts running shortly after!

Anyone had this problem, or could anyone advise what this could be?

Thanks

In this weather it may well be that it is running for the condenser rather than the radiator as they are all sandwiched together with the intercooler and it will run hot with the AC running hard.

I had a problem with mine too. The fan would often go full tilt too until volvo realised that it was caused by too much refrigerant in the a/c system. I'd taken it to an independent garage for a recharge and they put too much in and caused the fan to work like mad. Emptied it and refilled with correct amount solved it.

Gents, sorry for extremely late reply 🤗 hopefully I can be forgiven 🤪😂. Left it for a while with no joy and fan still staying on🤔 Decided to follow up on your advice minstrelblue😜 checked a/c refrigerant which was too high/too much added, once levels were done properly fan is back to how it should be. Happy days. Thank again guys
