I think I will make a set up with that tool too... nice idea and as Green Van Man says, a cheap one of these is not great for calipers.... my neighbour bought one and the guide rod snapped off it... and then the threaded bit that forces the spread stripped!

This earlier post has some excellent stuff plus a reference to the pliers that I bought and used which are excellent and you can extend the reach with a spanner as suggested earlier:
