Default Another Ignition key

Has anyone purchased an additional ignition key for a V70 p11? Is it only available from Volvo, or are cheaper options available from say Nordicar, if so, are they OK to buy and get set up by the dealer, or is it a main stealer only syndrome?
Any advice?
Thankyou on advance.

Key needs to be programmed to the car, can only be done by dealer. And you can programm each key only once, meaning if you can get an unprogammed/not used key, your dealer can pair it to the car.

You can't reprogramm used keys from eg eB**.

So in short: it's a dealer-stealer thing...

Skilled people can introduce new transponders a lot cheaper than dealer.

Transponders have OEM's too and indies also have VIDA subscriptions to use software tools such as key programming.
For example THIS might be the transponder for my 2001 car just to illustrate that my local guy asked 50€ for programming a key including transponder.

Not at all ! aren't you proud in having the most secure of ignition key systems ? Its nothing to do with the dealer it is how Volvo make it

I'm sorry, but I don't think so. Having a good and secure key system is one of the basic things, I expect from a good car.
In my case one of the many reasons why getting rid of my Discovery was a good decission (crappy key system = more than double the insurance price compared to my XC).

But, and that's what I actually ment by stealer, I can't see the point in having totally different prices in different locations. Or why is there a difference of nearly 600.-€ in activating the FBH, depending on country and dealer?

Don't get me wrong, I love this car, it is my seventh Volvo, but that doesn't mean, I wouldn't see what they are doing here. Programming a key to a car is an automated task, that is only necessary because they constructed it this way.

There are ways out there, that do this task way more secure and easy. But Volvo is a business and they need to earn money. In my opinion we as customers sometimes need to slow them down in getting greedy.

Voltech Automotive Ltd, Glasgow quoted me this for my 2005 V70
0141 554 4433

Key £82 +vat
Soft for key £20 +vat

Remote £82 +vat
Soft for Remote £40 +vat

Labour for programming £50 +vat

Complete key and remote, soft and labour cost £274 +vat (£328.80 Inc Vat)

As key would be special order, this would require a deposit or payment up front

The older model like yours above is a different set up , the later V70 which beardieman has is more simple , It will be just the remote/key and the one Masterkey software . It will be interesting to know the cost ...

Voltec are an authourised volvo repairer so can do keys , but certainly get a quote from your nearest volvo dealer and them , to compare the difference ...
