So do you just get a quote between £500 - £830 from the dealer of choice and they change the software? If you don't like it, and I cant imagine you not, but suppose... can it be reverted?

I'm expecting that the VEA D5 will probably offer about 420Nm 1750-3000rpm, but then fall off a bit slower than the old engines, leading to peak power at about 4500rpm.
4500rpm for peak power would seem a bit high if the gearbox is near its limit.

Manufacturers tend to wind down the rpm to manage the gearbox life, see the 5 cylinder D3 that won't rev past 3500rpm. Having a redline at 4500rpm seems a bit pointless. The D3 produces peak power at a lowly 2900rpm.

They've published spec for the D5 VEA engine in the new XC90 - 225hp @ 4250rpm

Higher revs means less torque for a given power: power = (torque x rpm)/9.5488 (metric units).

Just fyi, I got close to 15% of rrp when I asked my dealer for a discount. Mine was not done new, however,.it was at 1 year old. V60 D5 manual.

Bhp figures [230 for mine apparently] are largely irrelevant. Best to look at torque figures and curve.

Volvo engine nomenclature very very confusing, but I can confirm the 5 cyl D5 makes a nice sound, and that sound appears earlier in the rev range with polestar software.

After a while you don't notice any improvement of the Polestar -- you get so used to it. I suppose only when driving a non Polestar car would you then notice it.
